Disappearing Pounds?

August 16th, 2004

As a random aside, it appears that I lost three pounds overnight. Actually, I lost three pounds over fifteen hours. I wonder if fluctuations in body mass such as these are typical? I imagine that when I’m at the higher end of my weight spectrum, then fluctuations are likely to be more pronounced, but three pounds in fifteen hours?

This is almost certainly water weight, which tends to fluctuate quite a bit in the early days of a diet. In fact, at least some of the rapid initial weight loss that often occurs when dieting is just disappearing water weight, not fat.

Matthew’s right; that’s pretty common. I tend to see about two pounds disappear between sunset and sunup.
