The Hollando Diet

Gym

October 8th, 2004

I joined the local Park Cities YCMA. I have an orientation scheduled for Monday afternoon, and I probably will go in tomorrow for at least a half hour of cardio. I think it is the same YMCA where twenty years ago my parents tried to teach me how to swim.

This local Y is different and reflects on the Park Cities quite well. Each of the cardio machines has a 120-channel television, CD player, and LCD touchscreen installed. The machines use both real weights and air resistance, and computer-aided feedback seems to be a requirement for most of weight room. This gym is the most high-tech facility of its kind I have seen. Of course, my previous gym knowledge is limited to the Crown Street Gym in New Haven, CT, and Gold’s Gym in Waco, TX, so I may not have the fullest perspective. I’ll have to compare it to the Yale Club of NYC’s gym the next time I’m in town.

I love this place. With a few weeks before I begin the interview process, I have time to make full use of it.
