Diet Experts say that if you completely cut out all the things you crave that you will set yourself up for failure and temptation because once you give in, you'll just say fuck it for the day and completely pig out. And you'll be more likely to give in because you will be miserable and craving yummy food. Plus you don't want to spend your whole life unhappy in your eating just to maintain your weight. Maybe your chances will increase if you aren't so strict about it. Also remember that it takes most people about 2 months to change your eating and taste habits. Things should get easier after that so when it gets hard remember it will get better. But have one or two small things that you like each day and you will be a whole lot happier and more motivated.
Don't forget breakfast should be your largest meal, get lost of vitamin c for energy (a B multivitamin in the morning also does wonders for energy). Yerba Mate tea is a great alternative to caffeine. A good way to portion control is to order two appetizers or an appetizer and a salad when you go to eat.
Don't forget some positive reinforcement, too. A dollar a day in a jar every day you do well and you get to spend the money on something totally pointless and awesome.

P.S. if you are going to eat something friends stay away from fried cheese. and only eat foods that are fried in some form of pure vegetable oil. hydroginated oil is bad for your body. And drink a lot of water so you don't retain water...

Good luck!
