The Hollando Diet

To Diet or Not to Diet…

April 29th, 2007

So I managed to reach 152 pounds, and I even flirted with 151 lbs. for a brief time. Where am I now? Yes, 153 lbs. I may have hit “the wall.” At some point continued weight loss is neither healthy nor desirable. But where is that wall? Should I use a BMI calculator, or national statistical compilations, or just an intuitive sense of what feels right? The Hollando Diet has reached a critical question: when does one stop actively attempting to lose weight?

More important to me, how may I succeed in reshaping that beer belly? That seems less a question of weight loss and more of exercise. Dieting, stripping off excess fat, and staying thin are necessary precursors to a successful attempt at body-reshaping. Yet no progress comes without regular workouts.

Now I suppose I should consider working out at the YMCA… for the first time in months. Magazines from Men’s Health to Men’s Fitness advocate various workout regimens. Do my friends have tips for me? How best may I tone what mass remains after all this dieting? Do I attempt to gain mass via workouts and powdery protein drinks from GNC?

I still think the goal of 145 lbs. is useful, but in the near term, my focus must be on exercise. Suggestions are welcome.

Honestly, you might want to get a personal trainer to get you on a good path. They can tailor the training to target certain areas and meet your personal goals as well as keep the regimen changing so you don’t get bored. But they also put you in a better routine since you know you have to meet someone at a specified time to exercise and they will make sure you do the right amount of work to get your results!

It’s a bit pricey ($65/hr at the Yale Club in NYC), but I think that actually adds to the determination you get charged a fee for cancelling a session in

What the heck is wrong?? This thing doesn’t seem to recognize anything after a “less than” symbol… Weird.

What I am trying to say is you get charged if you cancel within 24 hrs. I’ve prepaid for 10 sessions, so my frugal sensibilities kick in when I think I might want to skip and won’t let me miss an appointment!
